Wondering why GSM approvals are slowing?
As we approach the end of the financial year (30 June) visa approvals for General Skilled Migration (GSM) slow down significantly. GSM visas include applications for the following visa subclasses:
Skilled Independent (subclass 189); and
Skilled Nominated (subclass 190); and
Skilled Regional (subclass 489) – First Provisional Stream
The reason for this is that the Migration Programme planning levels take precedence over priority processing arrangements and expected processing times. The maximum number of visas that can therefore be granted in each visa category is set, and as these limits are reached, the overall visa grants coming through are managed by DIBP.
